Herb Tip
Using Thyme:
Both the leaves and flowers of the thyme plant are used and are available either fresh or dried. Thyme adds a flavor that’s a little bit minty and a little bit lemony. Uses of thyme include beef, fish, chowders, vegetables and tomato sauces

"When treasures are recipes they are less clearly, less distinctly remembered than when they are tangible objects. They evoke however quite as vivid a feeling-that is, to some of use who, considering cooking an art, feel that a way of cooking can produce something that approaches an aesthetic emotion. What more can one say? If one had the choice of again hearing Pachmann play the two Chopin sonatas or dining once more at the Cafe Anglais, which would one choose?"

Food Tip
There is a risk anytime perishable food is left at room temperature for more than two hours. To reduce the risk, freeze something to be included with the lunch such as a juice box or a small plastic container of water, which will keep the food cool until lunchtime. A small refreezable ice pack, like those used in coolers is also useful.

Bread deals with living things, with giving life, with growth, with the seed, the grain that nurtures. It is not coincidence that we say bread is the staff of life.

Onion Bread Directions

This recipe will make two loaves of bread in a standard loaf pan and
calls for using a bread machine to do most of the labor.

Place all ingredients into the bread machine in the order listed.
Dried minced onions may be substituted for diced onion but water MUST
be increased to approx. 2 1/2 cups. Place bread machine on setting
for white bread and start. When bread has completed it's second
kneading, remove dough. Cut dough in half and shape into two loaves
and place in two greased and floured loaf pans. Place into a warm (90
deg) oven on the top rack. Place a pot of water that has been
brought to a boil on the rack below the bread. Cover bread with a
moist tea towel.

Allow bread to rise until doubled in size. Remove towel and bake at
350 deg. for approx. 45 mins. Remove from oven and remove bread from
loaf pans to cool. This bread is particularly good when toasted.

Serves: 2
