Food Tip
Although conventinal advice has been to use plastic cutting boards instead of wooden ones, there is an opinion that wooden surfaces may actually be better at preventing bacterial growth than plastic surfaces, which seem to harbor them. Whether you choose wood or plastic, use separate boards for raw and cooked foods, and make sure to clean and sterilize after each use. To sanitize cutting boards, wash with warm, soapy water, and then wash again with a solution of 2 to 3 teaspoons of household bleach in one quart of warm water. Rinse with plain hot water

Food Tip
Pack food in a cooler with ice or ice packs. Only pack foods which have been chilled to a temperature below 40 degrees F - do not use the cooler to chill room temperature foods. When finished serving cold foods, promptly return them to the cooler. If you plan to cook meat, poultry or fish on a grill while picnicking, pack carefully to prevent leakage, and take along baby wipes or moistened towelettes to wash up with after handling raw foods. A spray bottle filled with clean water and soap is another alternative - this works well for hands as well as surfaces.

Herb Tip
Using Sage:
Both the leaves and flowers of the sage plant are used in cooking in both fresh and dried varieties. A must in most homes at Thanksgiving for the holiday stuffing served, you can also add sage to eggs, poultry, pork, beef, lamb or pasta.

“Food for all is a necessity. Food should not be a merchandise, to be bought and sold as jewels are bought and sold by those who have the money to buy. Food is a human necessity, like water and air, it should be available.”

To the old saying that man built the house but woman made of it a "home" might be added the modern supplement that woman accepted cooking as a chore but man has made of it a recreation.

Belgian Cheese Tart Directions

NOTE: As this is a tart rather than a cheesecake, you should use an
8-inch tart pan or flan ring. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a
large mixing bowl, beat together the cheese, sugar and lemon juice
until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time
beating well after each addition. Beat until very smooth after the
last addition. Stir in the cream and pour mixture into the prepared
crust. Brush the top of the tart with an egg and 1 TBLS of
confectioners sugar that has been beaten together. Bake for 25
minutes or until set. Cool to room temperature and then chill before
serving.

Serves: 8
