Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, cloves and baking soda
together, blending well and set aside. Cream the shortening and sugar
together, in a large mixing bowl, until light and fluffy, using an
electric mixer set on medium speed. Add the egg and blend well.
Blend in the molasses and water. Gradually stir the dry ingredients
into the creamed mixture, blending well. Spread the mixture in a
greased 13 X 9 x 2-inch baking pan and bake in a preheated 350 Degree
F oven for 25 minutes or until a cake tester or wooden pick comes out
clean. Cool, until cold to the touch, in the pan on a wire rack.
Frost with the Confectioners' Sugar Frosting. To Serve: Cut into 2
1/4-inch squares.
CONFECTIONERS' SUGAR FROSTING:
Combine the sifted Confectioners' sugar with the milk and vanilla
extract in a small mixing bowl. Using a spoon, beat until smooth.
