I went to the bank and asked to borrow a cup of money. They said, “What for?” I said, “I'm going to buy some sugar.” |

“Food without wine is a corpse; wine without food is a ghost; united and well matched they are as body and soul, living partners.” |

We plan, we toil, we suffer - in the hope of what? A camel-load of idol's eyes? The title deeds of Radio City? The empire of Asia? A trip to the moon? No, no, no, no. Simply to wake just in time to smell coffee and bacon and eggs. |

"When treasures are recipes they are less clearly, less distinctly remembered than when they are tangible objects. They evoke however quite as vivid a feeling-that is, to some of use who, considering cooking an art, feel that a way of cooking can produce something that approaches an aesthetic emotion. What more can one say? If one had the choice of again hearing Pachmann play the two Chopin sonatas or dining once more at the Cafe Anglais, which would one choose?" |

There are three possible parts to a date, of which at least two must be offered: entertainment, food, and affection. It is customary to begin a series of dates with a great deal of entertainment, a moderate amount of food, and the merest suggestion of affection. As the amount of affection increases, the entertainment can be reduced proportionately. When the affection IS the entertainment, we no longer call it dating. Under no circumstances can the food be omitted. |

“Another article of cuisine that offends the bowels of unused Britons is garlic. Not uncommonly in southern climes an egg with a shell on is the only procurable animal food without garlic in it. Flatulence and looseness are the frequent results.” |

Food Tip |
Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking
pan and set aside. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the eggs and butter
together until fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla, blending well.
Add the flour and beat until smooth. Pour half of the batter into
the prepared pan and set aside. Melt the chocolate chips over very
low heat. Add the melted chips to the remaining batter, blending
well. Spread the chocolate batter over the white batter in the pan.
Zigzag, with a knife or spatula, through the layered batters to
marble the chocolate into the white. Bake for 25 minutes. Place the
pan on a wire rack to cool until cold to the touch, before cutting
into squares.
