Caramelize 1/2 cup sugar. Add boiling water. Stir until dissolved.
Add butter, milk, salt, and remainder of sugar. Boil to soft ball
stage (236 F). Cool to room temperature. Add flavoring. Beat until
thick and creamy. Spread on cake. Sprinkle with nuts.
