Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and 1/4 cup sugar. Set aside.
Combine bran flakes and milk, add egg and shortening; beat well. Add
sifted dry ingredients; stir only until blended, but do not beat.
Spread in a greased 8x8x2 inch pan. Mix together 1/2 cup sugar and
1/2 ts cinnamon. Dip apple slices in mixture; arrange on top of
batter. Sprinkle any remaining sugar mixture over apple slices. Bake
at 400~ about 30 minutes. Cut in squares and serve warm.
