"When treasures are recipes they are less clearly, less distinctly remembered than when they are tangible objects. They evoke however quite as vivid a feeling-that is, to some of use who, considering cooking an art, feel that a way of cooking can produce something that approaches an aesthetic emotion. What more can one say? If one had the choice of again hearing Pachmann play the two Chopin sonatas or dining once more at the Cafe Anglais, which would one choose?"

Food Tip
If raisins are dried out or sugary, put them in a heat-proof container and cover them with boiling water. Let them stand for approximately 5 minutes, drain and pat dry. This process will plump up the raisins.

Herb Tip
Using Oregano:
Only the leaves are used of the oregano plant available in both fresh and dried. Oregano, which is a classic addition to Italian food, also adds a robust and pungent flavor to stews, soups, fish, lamb, pork, vegetables and vinegars.

Monkey On A Stick (Marinated Beef Strips) Directions

Slice beef thinly cross-grain (it will slice more easily if partially
frozen). Vary marinade ingredients to taste.

Place beef strips in a shallow glass container or a ziploc bag along
with marinade ingredients. Marinate overnight to 2 days, stirring
occasionally or turning bag to mix.

Thread beef on to wooden skewers and cook over very hot charcoal.

Serve while still hot with rice and oriental vegetables, or just as
an hors d'ourve. Posted to MC-Recipe Digest V1 #
